In May 2019, a friend introduced her to the livestreaming platform Twitch, which has been working on video game anchors, and suggested she start livestreaming her songwriting and production process. Her work is very popular. Sereda now has 275,000 followers on her channel.
“It appealed to an audience who loved the magical moment of inspiration when perfect melody collided with perfect instrumental music,” she said.
Twitch enables users to monetize their channels in many ways, including paid subscriptions and sponsorships. As of September 2021, Sereda’s streaming hours and loyal fan base have helped her earn as much as $4,500 a month.
Nick Ortega made nearly $200,000 on Fiverr
Nick Ortega, 26, has been playing music since he was a child. He took piano lessons for 10 years and learned to use music production software in high school. In college, he formed the synth-pop duo PRXZM, which began touring immediately after graduating in 2017.
Ortega had just moved to Los Angeles in February 2020 when the pandemic hit. He created a Fiverr profile in 2019 and took part in a few production gigs, but with live performances (the main source of income) ceased, he decided to perfect his Fiverr profile. He hopes to use it to make up for lost tour funding.
