Amber Heard begins cross-examination, confronts photos – The Hollywood Reporter

lawyer Johnny Depp The goal on Monday is to weaken amber heardof credibility, putting Heard’s recording first in their opening remarks, saying that people would never believe she was the abuser in their relationship.

The testimony, which came after Hurd concluded her case, detailed days of violent brawls in the stands where she said she was beaten and raped by the belligerent Depp. Hurd testified that her ex-husband organized a campaign to smear her once she publicly claimed he abused her.

Asked about her recording of her encouraging Depp to “tell the world” and “see how the jury and the judge see” the recording of him claiming she abused him, Heard replied that she didn’t believe Depp would be in a defamation trial.

“Or, like you said, who would believe Johnny Depp, the man, was a victim of domestic violence?” asked Camille Vasquez on Depp’s behalf.

Hurd replied: “With all due respect, I’m not because he’s a man, but because he’s a man who beat me up for five years.”

At the heart of the Virginia court trial is whether Hurd was published in Washington post This doesn’t name Depp, but has something to do with their time together. She described herself in the column as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. Depp is suing for $50 million over the work, claiming he was boycotted by Hollywood for a scam orchestrated by his alleged ex-wife, who countersued for $100 million.

The trial rarely touched on the details of the controversial op-ed, mostly exploring the intimate details of the former couple’s relationship through conflicting accounts of physical bickering and Depp’s drug use. Hurd showed a number of pictures she took after her fight with Depp documenting the abuse.

After Heard concluded her direct testimony on Monday, Depp’s attorney questioned why photos of Heard did not show any apparent harm after the alleged abuse. The questions revolved around a row in March 2013, when Heard said Depp hit her with a fist full of rings, and in May 2014, Heard said Depp broke her nose.

Vasquez showed the jury a photo taken the night after Heard said she had broken her nose and questioned why she appeared uninjured. “That’s why I wear makeup,” Hurd responded.

After Vasquez asked her if she had shown pictures of her injuries without makeup, Hurd said, “I would very much like to,” prompting Depp’s lawyers to object.

Hurd’s testimony was repeatedly interrupted by objections from Depp’s team. The judge asked to speak privately with lawyers for both parties after Hurd went on to cite evidence that was not allowed into the trial.

In another controversial exchange, Hurd was asked if she had made good on the full promise of her $7 million divorce settlement with Depp to donate to the ACLU and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

“I treat pledges and donations as synonyms for each other,” Hurd replied. “They’re the same thing.”

After Vasquez raised the issue again, the actress said: “That’s how donations are paid.”

Hurd insisted throughout the trial that the donation was expected to be paid within 10 years, but she had to stop it due to litigation costs. The ACLU confirmed Hurd’s testimony.

Before cross-examination, Hurd went ahead with her case, saying Depp defamed her by calling her allegations a hoax. She was asked about a statement from one of Depp’s lawyers, Adam Waldman, who was dismissed after leaking to the press information covered by a protective order, claiming she “framed Mr Depp by calling the police” . The claim involved law enforcement visits to the couple’s house, and Hurd declined to bring domestic violence charges against Depp.

“It couldn’t be more wrong,” Hurd said of Waldman’s statement. “If I want a scam, why don’t I cooperate with the police? Won’t I say something to the police? Won’t I do more damage to the house than just knock over the pictures you see? This doesn’t reason.”

Hurd also testified that she was almost taken from Neptune 2 After Depp began denying abuse allegations. She said action sequences featuring her character were cut.

According to Hurd, she agreed to choose three photos for her character. Neptune. She was paid $2 million to reprise her role Aquaman 2which was the last film under her contract.

The trial will continue on Tuesday with cross-examination of Hurd.
