Ed Sheeran announces he and wife Cherry Seaborn have secretly welcomed their second daughter

Ed Sheeran has announced that he and his wife Cherry Seaborn have secretly welcomed their second child.

The 31-year-old singer announced the shocking news on Instagram Thursday night, sharing a photo of white baby booties.

Ed captioned his snap, writing: “Want to let you all know we have another beautiful baby girl. We all love her so much and would love to be a family of four

The couple are already parents to their eldest daughter, Lyra Antarctica, 21 months, who welcomed them in August 2020.

Ed’s Instagram post received a flood of congratulations from his followers.

The star announced Lyra’s birth in a similar fashion, sharing a photo of her baby socks on a blanket alongside his message.

According to reports, the couple only revealed the pregnancy to their closest family members.

Ed’s spokesman confirmed sun: ‘ Ed and Cherry recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl and are on Cloud Nine.

“They are very excited that Lyra has a little sister and the four of them are currently enjoying some precious family time before Ed returns to tour.

“We are happy for them and we hope you will respect their privacy during this special time.”

MailOnline has reached out to Ed’s representatives for comment.

Speaking on the Open House Party podcast in June, Ed revealed that he would be “very grateful” to add more members to his family.

The West Yorkshire-born star said: “I would obviously be very grateful to have more children, but I think girls are far superior to boys. As a boy, I feel like I can say that.

“I think we’re lucky to have someone who I think I’d obviously love more. But I think we’re lucky to have only one. So basically I’m happy if nothing else happens.

In November, Ed revealed that having daughter Lyra Antarctica was a “blessing” and a “miracle” after struggling to conceive with his wife Cherry, 30.

The singer recounted how the couple made an appointment with a doctor to check that everything was OK after “trying to have a baby for a while”.

They then welcomed their first child last August after a natural pregnancy during a 2019 vacation to Antarctica – which inspired the unusual name.

He told US Radio’s Breakfast Club: “We tried for a while to have a baby and then we started going to the doctor and figuring out what was going on.

“I do think it’s a miracle, so I thought, we should have that name.

‘A lot is spiritual. It’s about relaxation. A lot of my friends have been trying different things like IVF or making sure you have sex at the right time on the right day and then they go to a wedding and then relax and then get pregnant.

He added: “It’s not a given. When it happens, it’s a real blessing.

But he conceded that Laila probably didn’t like hearing why she got the nickname. “She’s going to get old and be like, ‘uh’!” Ed said.

Ed, meanwhile, revealed in December that he found it “really difficult” to leave his daughter Laila, who gave him “purposes” outside of his career.

Speaking on The Ellen Degeneres Show, the chart-topper admitted that it’s hard for him to be away from Lyra and his wife Cherry, even for a few days.

He said: “I really enjoy being a dad. I started out with my job as a hobby and then one day I got paid and it became my job.

“I just found that I had no purpose other than that. When I gave myself regular breaks, I wasn’t doing anything I liked because I like music.

“I really thought it was really hard, leaving. There was a conversation about possibly bringing Cherry and Lyra here, jet lag is not fun for babies.

Ed and Cherry were childhood sweethearts and grew up together in the same town.

They rekindled their relationship in 2014 and tied the knot in a small ceremony five years later.

“My actual wedding to Cherry was a small affair, with almost no one there,” Ed revealed to musician Jessie Ware on her Table Manners podcast.

“We did it at night, on a random day in mid-January, in a secluded place,” the singer added.

“No one knew, no one came, we lit candles, we got married, and went back for curry.”
