ESPN updated its preseason college football rankings, with Notre Dame dropping to No. 7 in the rankings. The reason is that ESPN jumped USC from No. 12 to No. 4 thanks to the Trojans poaching in the offseason…sorry, some transfer picks from all over the country.
ESPN’s hope is that USC head coach Lincoln Riley will be able to bring all these players from different teams together into a cohesive team that will take the Trojans from a 4-8 ball a season ago. The team became a college football playoff-caliber team.
Granted, Notre Dame led all the teams the New Trojans played last season, but the global leader expects USC to make a huge leap.
“Nothing seemed rosy between former Ireland coach Brian Kelly and the government before his surprise departure from LSU. New coach Marcus FreemanKelly, Kelly’s former defensive coordinator, can make Irish fans forget Kelly in a hurry if he wins the title this season.Notre Dame’s offensive line, led by tackles Joe Alter and Blake Fisher, have the opportunity to become one of the best in FBS.Bringing Back a Respected Offensive Line Coach Harry Hirsteind also doesn’t hurt their chances. Taylor Buchner and Drupine There’s been a pretty decent battle for the starting quarterback job, which may not be decided until late in preseason training camp.new defensive coordinator Arkin There are some holes to fill in the front.defensive tackle Aidan Kinanai Torn ACL in first spring practice. Irishman swiftly signed for Harvard transfer (Chris) Smith help. ” – Mark Schrabach
Notre Dame faces Ohio State this season, which is No. 2 in the rankings behind No. 1 Alabama. Rounding out the top 10 are Georgia (No. 3), USC (No. 4), Texas A&M University (No. 5), Utah (No. 6), North Carolina State (No. 8) No. 1), Michigan State University (No. 9) and Michigan State (No. 10).
Texas A&M’s No. 5 is a bit of a headache. Texas A&M has fewer starters returning from an 8-4 team in 2021 (10) than Notre Dame returned from an 11-2 team (14).Notre Dame had to change head coach, but Texas A&M lost great defensive coordinator Mike Elko And its entire starting line of defense. It will also have a quarterback battle that must be resolved.
ESPN predicts the Aggies will also have a breakout season in 2021, finishing No. 6 in the preseason rankings. Texas A&M lived up to their bargain, falling 8-4 despite an updated win over Alabama. Texas A&M lost to Arkansas and Ole Miss by double digits and lost 7-6 to Mississippi State in Ed Ogren’s final game against the Tigers Lost 6-7 to LSU.
Interestingly Max Johnson Led LSU to that victory, but he’ll now be competing for the Texas A&M’s starting QB job.
ESPN also had North Carolina (6-7), Iowa (7-6), USC (4-8) and Indiana (2-10) in last year’s preseason top 10.
